I work with my wife at SiteSage Solutions. She leads the business, and I support the technical work. We help small and medium sized businesses in Canada and around the world build things that fit the way they actually work.

I enjoy this because the starting point is usually a real, recognizable problem. Information has to be entered twice. A website no longer matches the service behind it. Staff need a better way to see what is booked, waiting or finished. The technology comes after understanding that problem.

## Connecting the work

Our work includes operational software, websites and customer portals, and practical uses of AI.[4] That can mean a booking workflow, a shared view of requests, a reporting tool, or a public website connected to the systems people use behind it.

Take a service business as an example. A customer submits a request, someone checks availability, a booking gets confirmed and staff need to know what happens next. I would want to understand that whole sequence before deciding which part needs software. A better form alone won't help much if the information still has to be copied into three other places.

This is where my engineering and technical product background meet. I like working through the requirements with someone, translating them into something concrete, and staying involved as we find out what needs to change.

## Making AI useful

AI is another part of that work, but I don't think every business needs to start with an autonomous agent. A useful first step might be helping someone find information, prepare a reply or pull details from a document for review.

The questions I would ask are practical. Where does it save effort? Can the person using it check the result? What happens when the information is missing or wrong?

I want the solution to remain understandable after launch. The owner and staff should know what it does, how it fits into their work and what to do when something needs attention. Building something that people can keep using is the part that makes the work worthwhile.
